In this publication, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) announces solicitation of applications for its Competitive DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program. Eligible applicants include city or township, county, or state governments as well as public and state-controlled institutions of higher education whose jurisdiction has existing crime laboratories that conduct DNA analysis of samples entry into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). These entities may apply for competitive funding to solve crimes and protect public safety by maximizing the effective utilization of DNA technology to process DNA samples for entry into CODIS. BJA encourages applications from agencies that have not previously received BJA funding and convening or governing bodies that can apply on behalf of one or more entities.
